The facets arrive in a box, in which they are individually numbered; all the dentist has to do is affix them to the vestibular surfaces of the teeth. Initially, they are positioned using glycerine in order to assess the end result and any alterations in the shapes of the facets. Then you move onto the real cementing phase, using appropriate cements that are usually resin-based, and finally refinishing of the prosthetic fitting is carried out so that any interference with disclusion movements is corrected. The whole process takes 1 to 2 hours at most, and given the outstanding level of precision of the facets, mistakes cannot be made. For the patient, application is very comfortable, does not involve anaesthesia, and there are absolutely no manoeuvres that would bring about discomfort.Moreover, in your opinion, does this new method change the patient’s approach to this type of cosmetic surgery?This new method will revolutionise the field of dentistry. It fully matches the needs of our patients, who usually want to get a beautiful smile, quickly and without having to pay a fortune. This new method completely meets all these criteria. Furthermore, I personally will add another characteristic, which is its reversibility, and therefore the possibility for the patients of returning to their original state at any time without giving rise to any damage to the structures of the teeth. Consequently, patients will be perfectly ready to accept this treatment once they understand the benefits of it. Meaning a patient can return to his or her natural teeth at any time without there being any damage to the structure of the teeth. What are the main differences between traditional methods and the VIS method?The use of veneers in dentistry is nothing new; they have been used for over 50 years, but they have never been widespread, mainly because they entail a high level of criticality in technical and biological terms. Each tooth has to be filed down a few millimetres (under anaesthesia) and temporary fittings must be used. Often, the teeth remain highly sensitive to thermal stimuli (heat and coldness) and you have to have a first-rate prosthodontic laboratory available. The construction procedure for the veneers used to be very complex, with increased costs as a result of this. But above all, the whole process was irreversible and in the case of the veneer coming loose or breaking (which happened quite often), restoring the fitting was very difficult, which could be very disappointing for the patient. So to sum up, it was technically difficult and very expensive. These criticalities have been resolved in the VIS system: teeth are not filed down, temporary fittings are not used, and neither is anaesthesia. It is reversible, inexpensive, quick, and easy to apply. All this is possible thanks to the development of new materials and technologies.Can you give us a better understanding of the real advantages granted to the dentist?By using this technique, a dentist can offer his or her patients a solution that is an alternative to traditional techniques. For the dentist, this opens up a new therapeutic opportunity useful for achieving the final result. For example, a patient with tetracycline-discoloured teeth normally undergoes traditional professional whitening, but frequently the results are unsatisfactory. By using the VIS system, he will be sure of achieving an optimal result.In what way is the system customised to the patient?By using the latest technologies which integrates scanners and computers loaded with extremely powerful software, and latest-generation machines that use 3D technology.What particular qualities do ceramic and zirconium have compared to traditional materials?These days, using zirconia along with ceramic is very widespread in dentistry, due mainly to their optimal biocompatibility, anti-bacterial effect, optimal aesthetic appearance, and especially to the physical characteristics that zirconium oxide guarantees. Suffice it to say that the strength in relation to the compression force, bending, breakage, and stretching is around 10 to 15 times greater than for other materials like leucite, aluminium and lithium disilicate, or feldspathic ceramics. These characteristics make possible the creation of attractive veneers with a thicknesses of a few tenths of a millimetre, which would be unthinkable using other materials.In which situation is using the VIS system possible?It can be used in all situations where you want cosmetic improvement in the harmony of the smile, so, it can be used for eliminating misalignments, discolorations, gaps between teeth with worn enamel, and in many other circumstances.What types of flaws can it eliminate?The VIS system made up of 8 or 10 veneers, has helped me treat many cases which I would not otherwise have been able to, because frequently dental issues are interlinked and it is very difficult to avoid using non-invasive techniques.
